Mr Thavamani – A New Life : From Leprosy to Livelihood

Mr Thavamani is leprosy affected person living in Thoplampatty village, Madurai East block, Madurai District.

Our NGO supported through rehabilitation programme by providing milch animals like cow, sheep, goat from the year of 1999.

This July the team visited the leprosy affected people in Madurai East Block. Mr. Thavamani is running a petty shop in his village. He is selling vegetables, snack items and running a tea shop. He is supporting his family through this income. Now he is very happy.

Ms Karupayee – Walking against all Odds

Ms. Karupayee, residing at Thiruparankundram, Madurai received MCR chappela for protecting her feet from being affected by ulcer, with these chappals, she is free to walk and she is very grateful to this centre.

“I have been suffering from Leprosy since past 20 years, I could not afford the cost of the medicines and also consultation cost of doctor as I am staying alone in Thattaneri, Madurai. I have been visiting the Mahelerecen mobile medical team since the year 2012. Every month I have received medicines dispensed is free of cost. 

I thank Mahelerecen team for such noble medical service.”

Mrs. Veerammal – Getting New Eyes

Leprosy patient Mrs. Veerammal from Mariyammal kulam village, Alanganallour block, Madurai district.  She is taking treatment from our Mahelerecen leprosy centre. She has requested our Mahelerecen team for her eye problem.  Our organization supported Rs 4150/- for her cataract surgery on 23^rd February 2018. Leprosy patient Mrs.Veerammal was admitted in Aravind eye hospital Madurai, her right eye cataract surgery was done on 24^th morning. Now she is alright in her house. Mrs. Veerammal thanking to Mahelerecen team.

Till now  5 leprosy beneficiary have been benefited by cataract eye surgery.

New Footwears for a new life

Every year Mahelerecen leprosy centre  providing MCR footwear to all our leprosy beneficiaries for to protect foots form the ulcer- prevention of deformity.

On 29th November 2018, Madurai Health and Leprosy Relief Centre’ (MAHELERECEN) organized the MCR footwear distribution camp for lepers at Chikender Chavadi – Jefeema Indian Oil Fuel bulk at Madurai district, Tamil Nadu, India. 60 leprosy people benefited through this camp.

For this function we invited Chief guests Dr. Sathish Ragavan- City Health Office, Madurai Corporation, Mr N Thiyagarajan – Superintendent Engineer – Tamil Nadu Housing Board and Revenue Inspector Mr. Mohan Kumar, Tamil Manila Congress party State Secretary Mr I Siluvai and well-wishers.

Mr Jayabalan – Walking with New legs

Mr. Jayabalan leprosy affected person he has admitted in ‘The Leprosy Mission’ hospital, Manamadurai in the month of June for the amputated his right leg and also admitted in the Kasturiba Gandhi Hospital, Gandhigramam, Dindigul district in August for artificial limps. Now he back to home and happy, 15th November he comes to our Mahelerecen leprosy centre, He is giving thanks to Mahelerecen org – Leprosy Centre.
